Emerald teams up with Refugee Action to help support families who have survived some of the world’s worst regimes
Imagine what it’s like to flee your home in fear, from war and persecution, to arrive in a new country with nothing but your life.
As a global knowledge business founded in Bradford, Emerald Group strives to support its local community and help the world become a better-managed place. With this in mind, over the last 12, weeks the company has given its employees the opportunity to get involved with a charity called Refugee Action.
Refugee Action is a national charity providing vital support to refugees who need to rebuild their lives from scratch. They help them build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK.
Employees have been attending Refugee Action’s Children and Families Welcome which takes place every Wednesday afternoon in Bradford. The group provides a supportive environment where refugees and asylum seeking families can meet, make friends and adjust to life here in the UK.
The volunteers have thoroughly enjoyed their experience with the charity and can see first-hand the difference their time makes. Although the scheme has only been running for a short period of time is it is great to see the positive impact it has made on the refugees lives. More recently during the lead up to the festive season the volunteers participated in Christmas craft activities and initiated a gift donation scheme across the company.
Emerald Volunteer: “Something I thought that was good, was that one little girl said to me - ‘I want to be Prime Minister when I am older and one of the things I would change is improving education’ - I thought it was so brilliant that a 10-year old is thinking like that”.
Vicky Williams, People Director at Emerald Group, said: “Emerald Group has always had a strong sense of social responsibility, both to our professional and local communities, as well as our employees. And we feel that our staff offer compassion and knowledge that will help Refugee Action clients develop the techniques to adjust, develop skills and create happier lives for themselves in Bradford and the UK as a whole.”
