Support for our global communities in light of recent natural disasters

Our global communities of authors, editors, librarians and reviewers are at the heart of everything we do at Emerald.

We would like to offer our thoughts and support at this difficult time to those communities, institutions and the people around them dealing first-hand with the effects of the near-unprecedented damage and loss caused around the world by recent catastrophic hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes and tsunamis.

Such disasters are distressing to even contemplate, let alone experience first-hand. We know that the effects, in some instances, will reverberate for a long time; but we believe that collective goodwill and a spirit of endurance will strengthen communities in the aftermath of the shock. As Hemingway profoundly put it in A Farewell to Arms, ‘The world breaks everyone and afterward some are strong at the broken places’.

Emerald’s global employees and offices are embedded within their local communities and we will do our best of offer any support we can give. In our 50th year, we have pledged to raise funds for our nominated charity, Heart Research UK, and will exceed our target of £50,000. We will now continue to donate some additional funds we raise to the relief efforts coordinated by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
