Digital rights for academic authors…explained!

There are many questions you’re faced with as an author of academic journal articles or books. Can I use an image from the internet? What does it mean if I transfer my rights to a publisher? And do I have to? Can I put the article into a university repository? What are the do's and don’ts of the Creative Commons licenses?

With this in mind, André Jun – Emerald’s Publishing Relationship Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean – will be talking authors through everything authors can do with published research at VIII Encontro de Estudos em Estratégia (the '3Es') in Curitiba, Brazil on 28 May.

In addition, André will be providing tips on how authors can disseminate their research through social media and author services like Emerald partner, Kudos, which helps researchers increase the reach and impact of their research.

Digital rights for authors

André will explain the ways in which publishers can help you, as authors, when it comes to the digital rights of your work; and how they can protect your rights as an author by acting on your behalf when there may be instances of copyright infringement.

Research dissemination and Kudos

Research dissemination is one of the top priorities for researchers and their institutions minds in the modern academic world, and André will be offering tips on how best to go about that.

For instance, he will touch upon our partnership with Kudos – the award-winning online platform that helps increase the impact of publications – which has seen high levels of engagements with our authors. All Emerald authors can use this service for free!

Kudos helps researchers, their institutions and funders maximize the visibility and impact of their publications to all audiences – both within the academic community, and more broadly.

You can find out more about Kudos and Emerald author access to the service.

We’ve has also created an infographic on ‘How to…disseminate your work’ and a social media guide for authors.  We hope you find them useful!
